Our story
The Zlamp brand was founded in 1994 by lighting designer Lars Bessfelt. The idea was to be able to choose materials and methods down to the smallest detail that guaranteed quality, good light and care for the environment. The following year, the new collection was shown at the furniture fair and had a great impact with its unique form expression and pleasant light pattern.
All designs of Zlamp's lamps are done by Lars at the drawing board in Anderslöv, where various Swedish suppliers then take over and manufacture the components of the highest quality.
The actual assembly then takes place in the workshop in Anderslöv, along with the manufacturing and sewing of the lampshades for all ZLAMP models.
Zlamp's signature has been the unique lampshades in mulberry paper and plastic that provide a pleasant light that does not dazzle. But a few years ago, shades in raw patinated brass were introduced as an alternative that quickly became popular. Since then, there is also vegetable tanned leather where each shade will patina differently and become more beautiful over time.
The environment has been an obvious and important factor in the production of ZLAMP from the start, where polypropylene plastic is used for the lampshades, an environmentally friendly product that becomes water and carbon dioxide when burned. The mulberry paper used on the shades is natural without added color and the types of glue used in production are water-based. The textiles, which are manufactured in Sweden, do not contain flame retardants or harmful pigments.
We surface-treat our wooden stands in Anderslöv with a durable floor varnish solution, colored with organic pigments developed in collaboration with Av Jord AB. Our stained wooden stands have a matte and unpolished surface.
The wooden stands are made from Swedish and Danish wood and are turned with care in Vetlanda, Småland.
All laser-cut parts are manufactured in the Gnosjö area of Småland and then painted next door in Hillerstorp.
Lars Bessfelt
Lighting designer Lars Bessfelt designed his first lamp when he was 15 years old.
